This has to be the "Tool Of The Week" on
Software And Tools. Blummy is a a bookmark aggregator. What do I mean?
"blummy is a tool for quick access to your favorite web services via your bookmark toolbar. It consists of small widgets, called blummlets, which make use of Javascript to provide rich functionality (such as bookmarklets)." from
Blummy Blog.
It's really cool. I use quite a few bookmarklets lately. One for Del.cio.us, one for posting to my blog, one for creating passwords, one for creating technorati tags, one for subsribing to Bloglines, one for susbscribing to Google Reader and etc. etc. So normally I would have to go under Bookmarks in my Firefox and then look in there. With Blummy I just click one bookmark and they will appear. You can even create your own bookmarklets (Blummlets) and either use it or share it with all.
Configuring Blummy bookmark for yourself is very easy. Blummy site has a set of predefined and commonly used Blummlets. Just search for it and drag and drop into a screen as above. Once you got all your Blummlet on the screen, just drag the bookmark (it is preconfigured with your username) and put it under your bookmark folder or onto your website somewhere if it allows Javascripts into it. It’s done.
So from then on when you click on the Blummy Bookmark link and click on Del.icio.us , a sreen as below will show up. Just tag the link and click on Store. It’s done. It’s quite a classic.
Now some drawbacks on using Blummy. At times it is really slow as it gets the piece of code from Blummy.com site. And we just don’t know this by default and we click hitting on the blummy bookmark in frustration. During my testing, I found that at times it took a while to get all the code from Blummy.com and render the UI as above. I might try to remove all the favions and see if that makes a difference in the speed. But if it is as fast as any other bookmarklet that I use, than I will keep using it. It’s quite handy link to have and I don’t even have to add my bookmarklet wherever I go.
If I am changing computers all often, than I will just add my configured Blummy link to the bookmarks and that’s it. I have all my bookmarklets there.
