Fotolia- Buy and sell royalty free stock

Fotolia.com - Buy and sell royalty free stock photos

Just got linked to Fotolia.com site from Techccrunch. So Fotolia is a site for selling and buy royalty free photos. One can either buy the photos exclusively, or buy a web only copy or a print copy.

With Fotolia you can even subsribe to RSS feeds based on your search criteria. The site uses fair bit of AJAX as well. We can even categorise pictures and stuff and add tags to them. Something to think about for those who are into photo business :).

Blummy - Aggregate your bookmarklets

This has to be the "Tool Of The Week" on Software And Tools. Blummy is a a bookmark aggregator. What do I mean? "blummy is a tool for quick access to your favorite web services via your bookmark toolbar. It consists of small widgets, called blummlets, which make use of Javascript to provide rich functionality (such as bookmarklets)." from Blummy Blog.

It's really cool. I use quite a few bookmarklets lately. One for Del.cio.us, one for posting to my blog, one for creating passwords, one for creating technorati tags, one for subsribing to Bloglines, one for susbscribing to Google Reader and etc. etc. So normally I would have to go under Bookmarks in my Firefox and then look in there. With Blummy I just click one bookmark and they will appear. You can even create your own bookmarklets (Blummlets) and either use it or share it with all.

Configuring Blummy bookmark for yourself is very easy. Blummy site has a set of predefined and commonly used Blummlets. Just search for it and drag and drop into a screen as above. Once you got all your Blummlet on the screen, just drag the bookmark (it is preconfigured with your username) and put it under your bookmark folder or onto your website somewhere if it allows Javascripts into it. It’s done.

So from then on when you click on the Blummy Bookmark link and click on Del.icio.us , a sreen as below will show up. Just tag the link and click on Store. It’s done. It’s quite a classic.

Now some drawbacks on using Blummy. At times it is really slow as it gets the piece of code from Blummy.com site. And we just don’t know this by default and we click hitting on the blummy bookmark in frustration. During my testing, I found that at times it took a while to get all the code from Blummy.com and render the UI as above. I might try to remove all the favions and see if that makes a difference in the speed. But if it is as fast as any other bookmarklet that I use, than I will keep using it. It’s quite handy link to have and I don’t even have to add my bookmarklet wherever I go.

If I am changing computers all often, than I will just add my configured Blummy link to the bookmarks and that’s it. I have all my bookmarklets there.

Riya talked about on Wired News

I am having fun testing Riya and getting the photos of friends and family recognised by Riya's system. I was just on Memeorandum when I noticed a Wired News article link. Kathleen Craig gives a short overview of capabilities of Riya and some reviews and concerns from people who are tested it so far. I totally agree that an email address based identification is bound to break when people these days have and use more than one email address and change email addresses often. As mentioned earlier in one of my posts on Riya, I think something along the lines of Plaxo identification method might work here. Michael Arrington at TechCrunch notes about Riya launch party which is on 18th November, 2005. I wish I could be there, but have fun to those who are going to the party. Make sure you get enough photos there and we can put them on Riya. Tags: - -

Frappr-- Create a map for the group

I checked out Frappr today. One can create a group map and then members can add themselves to the group map along with the name of their cities. It uses Google Maps for this purpose and when you bring up the group and hover over the balloons you can see the name of the person and their details. Looks like fun

Media_httpwwwfrapprco_nhcqk
.

I went ahead and created a group called MelbourneGujjugroup. Went ahead and added my details. Duh!! It asked me for a 5 digit area code. We don’t have that in Australia. We just have four digit area code. Is that something Frappr Guys can fix it up? If so than do so. This does look like a fun and helpful service to use. He he, you guys can think more than just for US I guess.

Planzo.com-- The online planning community

Planzo.com

I just found out about Planzo.com. Planzo.com is a online planning community where we can share calenders with others. We can even share events on our website and blogs. It is using all the latest technology like AJAX, RSS, XLS and even uses SMS. Creating events is easy. We can see the events created by our friends in a single calender view.

Other features include creating groups where we can add other members or they can add themselves based on the configuration selected. We can create notes and make a to_do list. This online planning community has some features of the site Remember the milk site which I visited few days back. I really liked some of the features of Remember the milk site as well. I will review that site as well some time later.

My Planzo.com calender can be found at http://tejaaa.planzo.com . I will use if for few days and see how I go with it.

Tagalag - People tagging

Tagalag

I got a link to Tagalag! from TechCrunch . It is a people tagger. People can tag other people if they know their email address and create a contextual relationships between tagged nouns and the identity of the person. Tagalag! also combines the feature of combining blog, photo posting and RSS feeds and generate an OPML file. Using Tagalag! one can promote himself by putting down tags against his/her name and can search for people having similar interest. Tagalag! will even allow you go create a home page such as John Wehr (he is creator of Tagalag!).

Now the question is why would I want to use it? What’s the benefit for an individual user in using Tagalag! ? John, I am sure you would have an insight into this product and would know of 101 reasons why people should use Tagalag!. But sorry, I cannot figure out all those reasons using at looking at the features and the UI of the site. Would you mind sharing your insight with us? Is this kind site more for creating home pages for users? Sorry I am not truly getting the value out of this service yet, please explain.

Using Memeorandum Widget on this site

As I get less and less time to follow the ever increasing flock of good blogs, I am now more relying on Memeorandum to get the latest news and the buzz on the Tech. side of the Internet. I was checking Tara Hunt's blog this morning regarding any more news on Riya, that is when I saw a Memeorandum widget on her site. I went to Memeorandum blog to find the widget code just there. I have integrated the code onto my site for two reasons. 1. So myself and people can get the latest of the Internet while reading the posts 2. To show my appreciation for the work that Gabe is doing on Memeorandum. Hey Gabe, how about giving your users control as to how many news item they want to show using the above mentioned script?
