Gtalk not working in Firefox? Extensions might be a problem

I have spend around 60 minutes today as to why exactly Gtalk feature was not working within Gmail in a particular profile of Firefox and working fine with other Firefox profiles and with IE. I love Firefox extensions and so have many installed on my system. So after I realised that Extensions and extension configurations was an issue I started disabling each extension one by one and started testing it out. So the conclusion was two Firefox extensions which are installed on my system would not allow Gtalk integration within Gmail, namely Session Saver and Customise Google. I finally solved the issue with Customise Google and got it working. With Customise Google, make sure that "Secure" box is unticked in 'Gmail' option tab. This might be due to the fact that Gtalk integration is not working when we are using a secure connection with Gmail (atleast for now). So now remains Session Saver extension, I have disabled it for now and wait for an update when this problem is fixed

Google Starts beta testing of domain hosted email

I speculated about Google offering hosted email service soon and it's out now. It currently in Beta and by the looks of it Google is interested in offering it to organisations at this stage. For sure if I was running my own business, I would definatley jump on the wagon, as I know what I am getting. Update: As I think about this more, I think Google Calendar might be next in line somehow. As organisations along with hosted email do need to have access to integrated calendar feature as well. And Google can offer this feature where they can do group sharing and all, wow, it's all coming together now :).

files and settings transfer wizard!

files and settings transfer wizard is a true bliss for everyone. we will see its working and how to do the same manually ;)

files and settings transfer wizard is a great tool as it copies all your settings and installed programs to your new operating system be it migrating to vista from xp or jumping from xp to xp & even lower versions! you can even select features or programs that you would like to copy to your new operating system. now how this this works: windows puts up all user settings in a user folder that can be found in “ :\Documents and Settings ” folder in the same drive windows is installed and you will find in this all users individual folders and  common folder for common settings and common installations. the application changes and settings that you save are kept in “ Application Data ” folder now there exists  two “ Application Data ” folders one in “ :\Documents and Settings\user name\ ” folder the other in “ :\Documents and Settings\user name\local settings\ ” folder what the use of two ? beats me! anyways the program, uses these two folders + the registry data and the program source to copy all your files and settings to your new os! so if in case u actually forgot to save / backup your settings u know where they are now! & if you are wondering where to download this tool from on Microsoft site u don't need to its there already on your system
Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >> Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Now lets see how to actually do this manually, i am going to  copy my firefox with all its settings and installations (extensions, plug-ins etc etc) to a different system say my office system to my home i don't want to install all my extensions again ;) so copy the main folder in which the application is :\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox ” copy zip do your biding. now copy two more folders the folders with name mozilla in “ :\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data ” and in “ :\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data ” once we have copied all these three folders mail / send / hard transfer to target PC download to the system and we are ready! just use an firefox installer (std firefox installation) on target PC for creating links and data in the registry! then dump replace these three folders in there respective locations! and walla!
the look, feel, everything, is exactly the same!!!

the simple way to transfer firefox is u can copy migrate the user settings from firefox i just used these to demonstrate that u can do the same to any software installation.

Will Gmail host your Domain email as well now?

While having checked the new Gmail + Gtalk chat feature integratino within Gmail, I started pondering how fantastic tool Gmail is becoming. And after they have Calendar feature integrated within Gmail, it will be more then fantastic! This made me think that there are chances that Google will start offering their Gmail services to domain owners who want to host their email on Google Servers using Gmail feature. Wow this can be a smart move (and probably it will be coming soon I think). So not only Google will make their dream come true about indexing all the information in the world, they might be hosting about 25% of the information on their servers (well with the new Google Desktop Search tool, won't they be indexing a lots and lots of information and storing it on their servers?). So what might be next, Google will start offering Domain registration services as well (It became Domain registrar in 2005 I think). Next I think it should also give the facility of searching my search history on Google from within Gmail service itself. OK, OK now this does not make Gmail just an email service, it becomes a lot more then that ( I shout again, where's Google Calendar!). There are so many other posibilities, but let's wait and see what comes next. By the way, Microsoft is also in plans of hosting Domain email on their www.live.com site. But I don't think Microsoft will be as fast as Google to integrate all their services together, who knows they just might beat Google some where! I see that Garett Rogers of ZDNet is thinking along the same lines as I do. Well he did see at the source code underneath Gmail, and I did'nt :).

Google integrates Google Talk with Gmail along with new features for Gtalk

OK, time for some more features for Gmail and Gtalk. Google has integrated Google Mail and Google Talk. So if configured so, all the chat sessions carried on Gtalk can be saved onto Gmail service. Wow, is this cool! Sure is. It can be handy at times when I want to times where we chat a lot and don’t have to worry about writing or copying some important conversation for future references.

Google is really going to index all the information out there, I see it coming! Some people might say that this is Google’s one more stunt to making Gtalk more famous. I partly do think so too. I don’t know many who use Google Talk. OK, it’s plain vanilla, clean interface, no ads and all, but it’s really really plain to use it apparently and it does not have a widespread acception so far as well. Such features might boost the interest of people to give it a try. On the other hand I will really have to be careful what I say out on chat now, people might hold it against me. Is that what you are worried about, then wait! They are also adding another feature called “ ‘off the record “. By enabling “Off the record” option for chat sessions, the chat messages will not be stored on Gmail, even though the chat history service might be enabled.  By default the chat history option is disabled, you got to enable it to make use of it.

This is all well and good, but the feature that I am most impressed is theinclusion of Google Chat/Talk inside the browser inside Gmail service itself. Alright, this might mean one less application to install for me and also I will be able to chat from anywhere now, don’t have to be dependent on software being installed ( Ofcourse, I can use services like Meebo anyway). Google says that this feature will be rolled out in the coming weeks. Google does know how to promote their services well compared to other competitors. Microsoft, can  you learn to be more innovative please?

To Feed Butler- Another Digg like site

OK, I visited Feed Butler today, it's in Beta now. From the outer surface and based on my preliminary feelings, looks like it is kinda Digg like site. But is Digg so famous that the whole world browsing the Internet knows about it and the whole concept behind it. Obviously not! So here are some comments to the site owner of Feed Butler and I can see that some of this will be relevant to some similar sites as well.
Media_httpwwwsoftware_zbbmj
Note to the developer of Feed Butler:- Please take this as positively as you can and good luck with your site. 1. I know that the site is still in Beta, but let your users know how this site is going to make difference. If needed deploy this features in advance before you deploy the beta out to public. As an user I should know why I should really spend my time on your site. Read some of the points on Rajesh Shetty's Blog and this post in special http://blog.lifebeyondcode.com/blog/_archives/2005/9/6/1204001.html. 2. Create a demo just to show how you want your users to use this site. At the moment there is nothing on the Feed Butler site that explains what the site is all about. A Demo will at least give users what it is all about once they reach the site from some where. 3. Please, Please let your users know who is behind this project. Having a blog without a face does not really help! 4. Again, as pointed in point no. 2, explain your users in plain English as to how the whole process/site works. I have difficulty understanding how the news items get picked? 5. Get your users excited about your service. Look at your site, from what angle does it really tempt me to sign up or even use it? 6. Give 5 good reasons to your users as to why they should really use this site compared to one of the site which already offers this service VIA:- Steve Rubel's Blog

Newsalloy - Another web aggregator in the market

We have one more news aggregator/Feed Reader/news reader (what ever you call aggregators these days) is in the market. It's called Newsalloy. It is promising a lot of features and the main one is it is AJAX based. It is free as well unlike FeedLounge for which I wrote few days back. Oh well it's still in Beta! ( what I meant is there are chances that things might break here and there and I did find somethings not working). I am trying to import my 900+ feeds OPML file and it just says "loading". Although I can see that the feeds are being imported, it's just too slow at this stage for me to do some real testing. I will visit it later on when the dust is settled a bit. VIA:- Techcruch

Hardware Check!

Now before we begin diggin into XP lets do a bit of hardware check process against ram / speed against memory etc, etc. Now Unless u are going to buy a new computer then scrolldown for recomended hardware description there is not much u can do about ur processor speed advise: dont risk with overclockers u mite kill a load of things. many motherboards now come with overclock feature u can set from ur bios which with proper cooling these are usable. but generalising there is not much we can do about our processor. but system is slow how shd i hav perfomance increase ? -> increase ur pagefile size (virtual memory). One of the reasons linux is so stable is it uses an individual different partitions for different os usage (os files, installations, virutal memory). Its virtual memory is a drive formatted with a special filesystem for its use. so no file fragments gives gud perfomance but there's a catch once set u cant increase its size but in windows u can. so depending on no of installions u hav and no of programs u hav minimised u can increase ur virtual memory! if u are installing a new windows operating system leave one drive with 1gb space and use this drive for ur virtual memory speeds up a bit more. -> go for higher capacity ram Now here's the magic the more ram u hav the more speed and stable ur system wud be irrespective of ur processor speed best recomended ram size 1GB else use 512 mb fairly gud! u can still work around 256 but the more the merrier. Buyin a New PC: PROCESSOR: Intel HYPERTHREADING! (Actually works around twice the speed's perfomance due to hyperthreading, Comparision: hyperthreading with 512 RAM is equavalent to any process same speed with 1GB RAM since processor is a long term investment choose wise. RAM: As said the more the merrier. Graphics: New motherboards hav better Graphics accelerator than used to before but if u buy additional card ur system wud be using memory on the card hence complete ram available for ur processing is more. only advised to buy for a hardcore gamer else dont bother. Moniter: Samsung/LG, Anythin's great just chk the resoultion @ frequency all resolutions shd me workin @ a minimum of 85 Hertz else u dont want to go blind do u ?!? HARDDISKS: CHKOUT THE SATA HARDDISKS these hav serial connection cable and hav high data transfer speed and can therefore hav an high impact on ur system. cost is a bit more than the normal ida harddisks. Remaining all depending on the fancy u want to put in. ps: buy keyboard which has a good arm rest! highly recommended! [+]
