Michael Arrington at
TechCrunch announches that
Ether will launch today or tommorrow according to which part of the world you live in. Looks a interesting concept and can see a huge scope for this service.
So What is Ether you ask?
--> Earn money while what you say. You can earn money for what you have to offer. It can be anything from you talking over the phone and selling your services, selling digital content and market yourself on the web. Ether means a service where phone meets the web.
How does Ether work?
--> Ether would work on the website. To use Ether over the web, we have few options. First, we can get a Ether phone no. which Ether website says will be free of charge. We set the fixed rate for the services we offer and put their phone no. on our website or services. People use that phone no. to call and pay the fixed rate for a set amount of time. After paying Ether system dials out our Ether phone number and we are in business. so customers don't have to worry about international phone calls if they are using services where the service offering person is living in another country.
The beauty of Ether is we can set our own working hours when we are able to take phone calls.
More from
Ether website.
Earn money via email.
You can sell any digital content, such as reports, photographs, podcasts, videos, etc. Simply send an Ether Mail with the contents you'd like to sell and set the price you're charging. People will only be able to view the contents when they pay your price.
Sell content on the web.
You can also sell digital content using an Ether Buy Now Button you can place on your website. Simply set up a Buy Now button with the contents you'd like to sell and set the price you're charging. People will only be able to view the contents when they pay your price.
Is the Service available to public?
--> No, as I understand it's in closed beta for now.
How do one get paid?
--> Ether website says that they can either do a direct deposit or send a cheque. How about services like Paypal? no mention of that on the Ether site.
Do Ether do this all for free?
--> No, they are planning on charging 15% of whatever the fees is charged to the end client which will cover administrative overheads including national and international phone calls.
Does Ether have a blog?
--> Ofcourse, it can be found at
http://community.ether.com/blogs/ether_blog/default.aspx .
How do I get an invite?
--> You can sign up for Ether. I don't know, it worked for me when I did it using Firefox by visiting this
URL and the same does not work in
Internet Explorer. I will work on a quick hack in the coming post.
